| SEGHERSFLUID CLEAN machine control system upgrade.
Keppel Seghers, a maker of fluidized bed cleaning machines, selected Barton Controls, Inc. to develop a PLC based control system to replace existing controls on their in house unit used for sales demonstrations and test cleaning of parts for potential and existing customers.
The existing relay based control system was replaced with a PLC based system which included a color touch screen as the operator interface (HMI). Working closely with Keppel Seghers engineers, the system was designed and built to meet their specific space requirements and enhanced functionality with machine configuration and all operating parameters setable through the HMI. In addition, the HMI is used to monitor the machine operation and status, alert operator of and log any alarm conditions, manually override operation of the field devices, display status of all PLC I/O points and display electrical and mechanical component locations and part numbers.

| Resaw Control System / Elk Valley Hardwood Designed around the Allen Bradley SLC500 Ethernet PLC and consisting of a main control cabinet with dual operator consoles, the control system allows for full automatic and manual control of all functions of the resaw process line. Included as part of the control system package is a 12" color touch screen operator interface (HMI). The HMI is used to view and modify all system operating parameters and calibrate feed speeds, line bar positioning and pressroll positioning. Additionally, the HMI allows for monitoring of the entire process through various screens that graphically represent the resaw line's individual sections and their components (photocells, solenoid valves, limit switches, etc.). Also included is alarming functions to alert the operators to any alarm conditions or errors that may occur such as a tripped motor starters, blocked photocells, etc.

| Hydraulic Power Unit Control System
The control system was designed around the Allen Bradley SLC500 PLC. It consists of a main control cabinet, four remote I/O stations and three remote operator interface touch screen (HMIs) and provides the controlling functions, monitoring and alarm anunciation for the hydraulic system that provides hydraulic power to three test cells used for static and fatigue testing. The system was designed to control a main hydraulic power unit and a single pump unit located outside the main pump room. The main hydraulic power unit consist of a five pump unit each rated at 100 GPM / 5000 PSI. Controls located on the door of the main control cabinet allow for full control of the system including pump start/stop, pressure adjustments, auto/manual mode selection and local/remote mode selection. The HMIs, located in the remote area of the building provide full control and monitoring of the system as well. Additional control functions include pump supply routing monitoring vs remote control lockout plus oil temperature and heat exchanger cooling water temperature control.
